Daylight savings in the US is the perfect reset to perform maintenance tasks.

The end of Daylight Savings Time, which falls on November 2, 2025, marks more than just moving the clocks back an hour. For every successful Airbnb host and vacation rental owner, it should be treated as a biannual maintenance holiday.

I call it the “Daylight Savings Dividend” because the small amount of time you invest now pays huge returns in avoiding frustrating mid-stay guest mini-emergencies, preventing property damage, and securing those essential 5-star reviews moving into the future. Here are some of the most essential tasks every U.S. host should complete with the shift in time, focusing on battery integrity and seasonal property health.


1. The Critical Battery Reset: Prevent the 1-Star Common Fail


Batteries are the silent, most common point of failure in a modern vacation rental. A failure can lead to a negative guest review before a stay even begins, especially if your guest gets locked out of your property. Since the time change is a fixed, bi-annual event for nearly all United States properties, it becomes the perfect cue to ensure your power sources are always fresh. This simple habit guarantees that a crucial amenity's reliability never falters.


  • Smart Locks: The absolute most critical battery change. A drained smart lock can lead to a disastrous check-in, resulting in expensive locksmith calls and frustrated 1-star reviews.

  • Safety Alarms: Smoke/Carbon Monoxide Alarms are a mandatory safety change for the well-being of every guest as well as added peace of mind for the property investor.

    • Check Eaves and Vents: Look for any new nests or insect entry points around the foundation and roofline. Seal any breaches immediately.

  • Deep Cleaning Overhaul: The low season is the best time for the most disruptive tasks:

  • Proactive Exterior Lighting: Ensure all motion-sensor lights and timed exterior lights are working perfectly. With nights starting earlier, guests need clear, bright pathways, steps, and parking areas to safely navigate your property.
